Looks like we're both on the same band wagon Yep, I've been terminated tonight. Told to clean out my locker, turn in the safety glasses the company issued to me during my first day to work well over a year ago. And to turn in my swipe time card. Yep, no longer a Challenge Manufacturing employee. They are losing Honda as the quality of metal parts are not good at all. And where I work in the Transfer press department, we make allot of Honda parts. We also make some GM parts too. But GM is going through restructuring. They are closing their Tennessee or Kentucky plant and moving that up here to Lansing MI. So many of us trained employees that has been with the Challenge for a year or more are being permanently laid off. I've mention many times before that I am more than willing to take an hourly pay cut, cut out my health insurance, etc to keep my job. Cause I DO like working there as it is very interesting. Especially working at a transfer press. Seeing how the linear transfer arms/fingers pick up the parts and transfer them through a series of dies to make/form the metal part. But upper management thinks otherwise. Michigan is an "At Will" state. A company can terminate an employee for any reason at any time. Same thing for the employee, he/she can quit at any time & for any reason.

I thought Challenge Mfg was hiring? They had a sign out front all summer long. Now their laying off - doesn't sound like good business practice. Lay off employees that know what the company wants & expects and replace them with cheaper untrained employees. That's how we keep America running Replace the Born American workers with illegal immigrants that are willing to work for nothing at all. Or ship our companies to Mexico or China for cheap labor force. And then send those products to America where Americans can't afford Crap cause we ain't got no jobs to buy such products.

Mugrb,
Sorry to hear that you had been let go from your current employer last night. Seems to be a constant battle to stay employed these days. I have not heard of any companies looking for new hires but if I do I will let you know.
Make sure you get to the unemployment office as soon as you can to start receiving your benefits.

Sorry to hear you have lost your job MugRB(Kirk). It never easy to lose your job and its a bad time of the year to lose it. Hope you get something from the dole and are able to get back into work sometime next year. In Scotland a company has to give you at last a min of 4 days notice before they can let you go.

I have not heard of any companies looking for new hires but if I do I will let you know. Make sure you get to the unemployment office as soon as you can to start receiving your benefits. Especially in the automotive industry. Will be going to Johnson Controls for an application Monday. I heard they are hiring. Will certainly sign up for unemployment next week too. Company will be paying me my remainder of my 26 hour vacation time in my last paycheck next week.

Tried their online file service, but have to be working for 18 months. I've been with Challenge for 15 months. So I'll have to either call the "800" number or file at the Michigan Works office. I talked to some former coworkers and they said they can received unemployment benefits if they have been working for at least 90 days. Which they did file and did receive unemployment payments. Well, my fingers will be crossed as I go to the office tomorrow hoping I can get Unemployment benefits. Otherwise I'll sink faster than the Titanic with no possible recovery at all.

I do qualify for unemployment benefit. Forgot that I was working for two other places I had to quit in order to work at Challenge. So I was certainly been working allot longer than 18 months. Also signed up for online MARVIN. No doing the questions on the phone.
