One particular South Haven Police officer may have FINALLY chased me off of the beach for good! No more watching the sun set over the lake. No more watching thunderstorms over the lake. Or watching the boats on the water. I have to go to Benton Harbor/St Joe or Holland to do that now. But my bank is still in South Haven. I am NOT traveling the extra miles to go to Paw Paw or Fennville to do my banking!!
Yes, this is the same cop that got all pissy with me when I headed west bound on Michigan state highway 43 (M-43) on July 4th. Made a big scene, telling me I cannot go left, cannot go straight, cannot go right either. OK!! I'll put my truck in park and wait for the string of traffic to go. I'm kool with that. More so that most people realize. I had no qualms sitting there at the intersection and watch the traffic go. But the pissy S.H. Cop flagged me to go - so I went.
Ever since then I am asked frequently WHY ARE YOU HERE? Whether I buy gas in South Haven, bank in South Haven, shop in South Haven or look at the big lake in South Haven.
Like back in August; I needed some gas for my chain saw. Just a gallon, that's all I needed. I have a Meijer gas card. So I am asked why the Meijer in South Haven. Ah, because it is only 13 miles away from home. The officer says there is a Meijer gas station in Holland. Yeah, there is, but that is 32 miles to the north. So... it makes better sense to travel 32 miles north for just 1 gallon of gas and then drive back south 32 miles to home!!?? The one on West Main Street in Oshtemo/Kalamazoo is 28 miles away. The South Haven Meijer makes better sense to me as a round trip will be 26 miles (there & back).
I have my vehicles serviced at Walt Sicard service garage because I trust their work - which just so happens to be in South Haven. The so called "Creaper Van" I paid $850 for came off of Walt's car lot. Drove it for 5.5 years. I bought my Jeep in South Haven. Bought my truck in South Haven. Buy my vehicle parts/fluids in South Haven. I help contribute to South Haven's commerce.
