A major winter storm is expected to hit Michigan with high winds, rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow showers. Storm is expecting to arrive late Tuesday night with snow showers turning to freezing rain and/or rain mid day Wednesday. Then turn back to snow late Wednesday. Thursday lake effect snow moves in with the potential of a major blizzard with high winds quite possible. Some reports suggest up to 3 feet of snow by Friday night with higher amounts in the drifts.

A Winter Storm Watch was issued for late Tuesday night through Thursday. Not looking forward to it at all.

Latest projection I seen puts the heaviest amount of snow from around Cadillac northward with anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of snowfall. Also high winds will create near blizzard like conditions as well.
For areas south of Grand Rapids, mostly a combination of snow changing to sleet/freezing to rain and then back to snowfall behind the cold front. The projected wind gust are around 45 to 55 mph with the potential of winds gusting to 65 mph along the lake shore.
I don't see how winds being that strong are going to pick up any significant moisture from the lake to produce the amount of snowfall forecasted. Usually with strong winds blowing across the lake, the snow is pushed far inland. Like Kalamazoo for instance would get the heaviest lake effect snowfall.

Actually its now a WINTER STORM WARNING. Lots of heavy snow is predicted. Where I am its 8-14 but just ever so slightly to the north and west its 14-24 inches. It could really go either way where I am. Hope its not too bad as I have a doctor appointment tomorrow.

Sounds like we're getting a mix of everything tomorrow. Then lake effect after that. Allegan County seems to get hit hard with the winds from the northwest. Thankfully I'm retired - I can sit at home and watch it all unfold.
