Been told by my phone company that I can get a DSL upgraded to up to 8mb speeds come August when the upgrade comes to my small town. The now I get a 2mb speed or just over that 97% of the time. Phone company say with the upgrade to up to 8mb DSL speeds I will be able to get speeds of up to 4mb or just over that. If I wanted faster than the upgrade will alow for my small town I would have to move Peoria where I work. If I take the upgrade come August it will mean singing up to another 12 months contract. Way I see it if I take the upgrade come August at lest it will be a bit of an improvement on the speeds im getting the now.

I can upgrade my cellphone contract to included wireless broadband, but I cannot afford that at this time. That's either 3G or 4G - whatever that's suppose to mean.

Im on 3.5g with my cellphone but in some areas the 3g/3.5g service is not that great and needs improving. 3g or the new 3.5g is ment to give you up to 1.5mb broadband speeds when using your cellphone for the internet and its also ment to make picture messaging easier and quicker to send but that also depends on signal and coverage area. Im on 02 one of the 3 big mobile networks in the UK. I get just over a 3mb speed most of the time with my DSL. Only once in a while my DSL speed may drop a little between 7pm-10pm. Darren

Better than dial-up, though it has been jacked up to a whopping 45.2 Kbps.

I got my line upgraded the day at no extra cost apart of a new 12 months contract so I could get 5mb or greater speeds. When I was on earlier it was like what crap as I was only getting 1.2mb and before the upgrade I was getting 3.5mb speeds 97% of the time. The night I find my speed has gone up to 4mb. I was also told it could take up to 48 hours for the line upgrade to settle down to the best speed for the line.

They have just upgraded my area in the last 2 months or so to fiber optic DSL to give you 30mb or over speeds but if want it, it will cost an extra £3 a month depending on what package you take. You also have to get a new upgraded DSL router and take a new 12 months contract and a guy from the phone company has to come to the house to make sure its all set up and working ok. Im thinking of maybe asking for the upgrade.

Im to get my DSL upgrade to fiber optic DSL in the next 2 weeks. I will get a new updated Hub posted out in the next week and aq guy from the phone company will come and intall the new VDSL modem into the main phone socket in the house and seen if its all working ok. The phone company emailed me yesterday to comfirm it and to see if it was ok. It will mean that I maybe able to get near 30mb speeds. May have to ask for time of work on the day they going to the upgrade.

Got my upgraded the day to fiber optic DSL and the guy only tane just under an hour to install it all. Upgraded hub is a little smaller then the old one I had been using. I also got a VDSL modem that plugs into my new hub and the phone socket. The new hub will be mine after the new 12 months contract is up but the VDSL modem belongs to the phone company. So far my download speed is nearly 4 times faster than before the upgrade. They say it could take two or three days for my new line speed to settle down. Im now paying £3($4) more a month.

When or if I have the funds, will be going to DSL. Probably by then they will have DSL out in my area. If not, will try the other wireless internet that sends/receives data via a radio transceiver. That IS available in my area right now. But I don't have the funds to get it now.
